Chrome extension
! Read on to learn more about my personal experience using this extension and how it has enhanced my browsing experience.
When I first discovered this Chrome extension, I was thrilled to find a solution that brought back the functionality of the backspace button as a back navigation button. It was frustrating to accidentally lose progress while working online by pressing the backspace key and leaving a page. This extension restores the old behavior and allows me to navigate back easily with just a single press of the backspace button.
Wildcard Options for Enhanced Flexibility
One of the standout features of this extension is the ability to customize the backspace functionality. With the latest update, the options now include the use of a wildcard character, '*', to match any portion of a URL. This means that I can set the extension to navigate back on specific websites or even entire domains. For example, entering 'https://www.example.com/*' will match any HTTPS page on www.example.com, including the homepage itself. This flexibility allows me to personalize my browsing experience to suit my needs.
Compatibility and Permissions
This Chrome extension requires a minimum Chrome version of 55. This ensures that the extension utilizes a more robust method that was added to Chrome, resulting in improved performance and stability.
Regarding permissions, the extension requires the following:
-
Read and modify all your data:
This permission is necessary for the extension to capture the backspace key on every page. Rest assured, the extension does not access or modify any of your personal data.
-
Manage your apps, extensions, and themes:
This permission allows the extension to detect when it has been re-enabled and install its code into open tabs. It ensures a seamless experience when using the extension.
Enhancing Your Browsing Experience
While this Chrome extension works brilliantly on most pages, it may not function on certain special pages such as the "chrome://" pages like Settings or Extensions. However, this is a minor limitation considering the overall convenience and improved navigation it offers.

Constantly goes back two pages.
Should be integrated within the browser itself by default. No extension required.
An option to use backspace to go back... Smart ! Looks like Apple way, thanks Google.
It should've been an option. nonetheless it works.
Why is this an extension? This should be a feature built into Chrome...
It was working well on most pages, but does not work on the MSN.com Home page. It backspaces within the MSN search bar.
Incredibly dumb that this is an extension and not an option
Google you are the worst. I shouldn't have to download a stupid extension to restore a function that has existed since before dinosaurs roamed the earth. Google you are the absolute worst, I hope your corporation fractures and is scattered like a thousand splinters in the wind.
Liked it while it worked, but it started messing with my twitch When the extension is active, the chat will say "Connecting to Chat" forever Disable the extension refresh the page, and the chat connects instantly Sad to let it go, but can't have something enabled that breaks other things Fix this and i will reenabled it
This is the first one I found that worked on Brave! I've tried like 5-6 add-ons!
